5G Wireless Solutions to Provide
Broadband Networking Equipment for Westminster, Calif.
-
WiFi HotZone™ to Serve ``Little Saigon'' Asian Community
MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- Oct.
18, 2005 -- 5G Wireless Solutions, Inc., an emerging
leader in the wireless broadband industry and a
portfolio company of 5G Wireless Communications,
Inc. (OTCBB:FGWC
-
News), a business development company, announced
today the City of Westminster, Calif., will be using
its new "cellular-style" wireless broadband base
station equipment to create a WiFi HotZone to serve
the "Little Saigon" Asian community.
The deal was arranged through
Fountain Valley, Calif.-based VIP Network Holdings,
Inc., one of 5G's channel marketing partners. VIP
will be using 5G's WiFi networking equipment to
serve the existing Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese
community in Westminster, as well as to provide
training experience for international staffers in
preparation for the deployment of wireless
infrastructures it plans for parts of Southeast
Asia. Located in the "Little Saigon" area of the
City of Westminster are five banks, six major
shopping centers, and hundreds of shops,
restaurants, and professional offices in what is
considered the largest Vietnamese business enclave
outside of Vietnam. The area is quickly becoming a
major tourist destination for overseas visitors
following a stop at nearby Southern California
attractions like Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland.
"We're delighted to be
involved in such an important community application
here today in California, and, ultimately, for what
it means in terms of international business
potential," stated Jerry Dix, 5G Wireless
Communications' CEO. "VIP selected the 5G Wireless
Solution over SBC and Verizon, who were unable to
meet customer needs. Our `less is more' hardware
philosophy makes perfect sense where it's important
to maximize the value of every dollar spent,
especially in developing nations, where investments
in wireless infrastructures appear to be
significantly ramping up."
Utilizing 5G's new
"cellular-style" equipment, featuring "outside-in,"
Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) signal penetration, users
equipped with standard 802.11b/g PCs and PDAs can
seamlessly roam throughout the community. Requiring
less hardware than competitors translates to faster
installation, reduced maintenance, reduced network
administration, easier upgrades, and, ultimately,
one of the lowest possible Total Cost of Ownership
(TCO) metrics in the industry today. Minimizing the
volume of WiFi hardware exposure is also a key
concern in the international market, where theft is
a common problem.
"Dozens of access points,
whether installed on lampposts or the sides of
buildings, represent a serious security risk where
theft is a problem," added Mr. Dix. "Our rooftop
base stations are much more secure atop tall
buildings well beyond reach of potential vandalism,
and we see this as an emerging benefit as we pursue
other international opportunities in India,
Malaysia, Russia, and China."
Earlier this year, 5G reached
out to community decision makers in the selection
process when the company was featured in a regional
business conference sponsored by VIP, and covered by
the local Vietnamese television network.
