(OTCBB: FGWC), announced today that the Utilities Commission, City of New Smyrna Beach (http://www.ucnsb.net/) has issued its initial purchase order for 5G’s recently introduced cellular-style Wi-Fi technology to create one of the most sophisticated broadband wireless Municipal Area Networks (MANs) in Florida. The initial deployment calls for 10 cellular-style wireless Base Stations to begin lighting up the 17-square mile area, with the first three to be deployed within the next 60 days. “The Utilities Commission selected 5G because we offered the right product at the right price at the right time,” stated Jerry Dix, CEO of 5G Wireless Communications, Inc. “Following a series of rigorous testing, we demonstrated the power and efficiency of our new cellular-style antenna and radio design at a competitive price. The simplicity of our solution also eliminates the need for truckrolls to most homes and businesses, and we believe this represents the next frontier of a wireless America.” The Utilities Commission is responsible for selection, implementation, marketing and management of the new broadband initiative. The investment in infrastructure initially provides wireless connectivity for utility and municipal purposes. As the network evolves, it may include access for local business merchants and various community event operations, with residential access possible for the area’s approximately 20,000 homes. Additional Base Stations will be deployed in order to provide coverage to the majority of the residents of New Smyrna Beach, with the most populous areas being completed first. “The network was successfully tested last March during our city’s annual IMAGES Festival, one of the top juried art shows in the Southeast,” stated Craig Crawford, Director of Information Technology for the Utilities Commission. “We were extremely impressed with the results and appreciated the value of how 5G does more with less equipment. It was crucial for us to look at ongoing maintenance and administration costs, and we quickly came to the conclusion that a dense deployment of access points made no sense.” 5G’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) advantage is understood by industry insiders to represent a major disruption in the wireless WAN and MAN equipment markets. A new analysis reveals an average 3-year cost, including ongoing operational expenses, of about $.20 per sq. meter for competitive infrastructures with 5G running at about half this cost. “We’re really making an effort to educate the market about these new metrics,” added Mr. Dix. “As most city governments will be looking at wireless broadband coverage as their next major investment, it behooves those decision makers in charge to consider our cellular approach to Wi-Fi. We’ve been looking back at which equipment contributed to the rapid deployment of a national cellular network and looking forward to replicating that for broadband.” Another important aspect of the network involves the travel and tourism market. As one of the closest beaches to Orlando’s popular tourist attractions including Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World, New Smyrna Beach attracts a large annual tourist population.
